Honda Environmental Efforts Paying Off

Saying Honda was ahead of its time was an understatement.  Back in 1992, they issued the "Honda Environmental Statement", which outlined its plan to proactively preserve the environment.   Recycling and conservation of materials was at the heart of the plan - from product conception to production.  To improve transparency Honda started releasing annual environmental reports, which survey the impact their operations have across the North American Region. On January 23 2012, Honda released their latest findings from 2011. Red River Honda is happy to say, Honda's painstaking attention to detail is paying off.

Proof Honda's Green Efforts are Working

  • CO2-adjusted fleet-average fuel economy for Honda vehicles (including Acura) sold in America, in the 2010 model year increased by 4.1 percent over model-year 2009.
  • Fleet average fuel-economy of Honda motorcycles across North America has increased 12 percent compared to the fiscal-year 2000 baseline.
  • All trucks used to transport new Honda models in North America in 2011 were EPA SmartWay Transport certified.
  • Through strategic transportation logistics, Honda eliminated approximately 5.6-million miles of truck travel and over 6,700 metric tons of CO2 emissions in 2011.
  • Honda achieved its goal of virtually zero waste to landfills for all plants in North America with 10 plants boasting absolutely zero waste to landfills. This represents a near 92-percent reduction in landfill-bound waste from the fiscal-year 2001 baseline.

Yes, Honda is quite committed to carrying their fair share of the weight of the world on their shoulders. And, this is just the start of even more progress to come.
